Fun Fresh bridal Headpieces

Romantic soft hair styles are quite the look this year. At Occasions we are noticing that our brides are looking for a more subdued hair piece to change into at their reception.

A bold single flower a cluster of small buds or crystals intertwined throughout a brides undo are the perfect finishing touch. Brides are now also opting for a small veil of tulle or a russian net bird cage veil to complete the look.

Trend Alert Belts and Sashes

Posted by: occasionsbethel on: February 4, 2012

Bridal belts come in many fabric choices such as satin, taffeta and organza to add just the right look to any wedding gown.
You can even add a splash of color in your sash and the color of choice this season seems to be blush pink.
Beading is very previlent and you will see both pearls stones and  bugle beading. Lace applicate adds quite another feeling giving your gown a more tradition even vintage look.  Flower belts are perfect for a more laid back romantic look. Do you have an antique broach add that to for a sentimental yet old world style.
The wonderful thing about a belt is that it allows you to add your personality to your wedding gown.  Enjoy!

The Shine and Sparkle

jewleryThey say that accessories are the icing on the cake, and this year the icing is oh so delicious. Jewelry is bold and beautiful. Earings are the most significant piece this year. Larger than years past they really make a statement. Crystals, rhinestone, and pearls are wonderfully set in exotic settings. Colored stones are available to compliment your special Occasion gown.

Necklaces are also a wonderful compliment. Look to the neckline of your outfit when choosing the style of your neck piece. The popular Y necklace looks great on a V neck, a choker can add drama to a strapless gown.

The Sugar and Spice Crowd

Posted by: occasionsbethel on: August 5, 2009

Here at Occasions, we know that the children in the wedding will be full of smiles and fun with no snips, snails, or puppy dog tails.

Pastel frocks are something to celebrate. If your color scheme is in the purple family, your flower girl would be adorable in a lilac organza dress with a sash adorned with a silk flower in the back.

Or, picture a flower girl in an organza dress, featuring a trio of straps at each shoulder with a floral-embroidered skirt layered over white satin.

Little people wow the crowd and at Occasions we have the perfect gown for every member of your wedding party.

Not Just Wedding Gowns

Posted by: occasionsbethel on: July 22, 2009

Here at Occasions, we enjoy watching the trends in wedding invitations. Right now, papers pressed with leaves or petals, rifer ribbons, botanical drawings, tropical watercolors, abstract floral sketches, flowers including orchids, lilies, hydrangea, or sunflowers, seashells and butterflies head the top of the list. How neat to have seashells on invitations when the wedding will be at the beach, or perhaps for the couple who met at the beach. For the artistic, an abstraxt floral sketch is perfect.

Trends come and go and they often edge in quietly. “Plain Jane” white or ecru, with formal wording is gradually coming back.

Many invitations depict rich similarity – pearlized white, gilded edged, metallic accents, layered, often vellum over colored flat panels, and many fold-over styles are popular.

Save-the-date announcements are so popular some companies are introducing books showing noting but these informational cards. So there is a style for everyone. Do come in and see for yourself. Occasions is your one stop shop for all your wedding needs.

Concerned About the Budget?

Posted by: occasionsbethel on: July 15, 2009

Here at Occasions, we encourage brides not to spend more than they can afford. We offer these tips for staying within a formalized budget, once it has been determined.

Allow some money to any emergencies, expected or not. They will always show up.

Keep track of all expenses. If the gown goes over budget $400, you must cut costs elsewhere – $100 less on flowers, food and accessories, $50 less for invitation and party favors.

Learn to improvise. If your dream is a band, cut back a couple of hours. If your dream is to have the reception at a luxurious location, have it an hour when hor d’oeuvres rather than a sit-down dinner are sufficient.

Have an off-season wedding when things are less expensive. Keep it simple. Quiet elegance is always in style.

Do come in and let us help you plan a truly memorable event! Remember to book you appointment now to take advantage of our special sales and events.

Wedding Gowns and History

Posted by: occasionsbethel on: June 10, 2009

Here at Occasions Bridal, we find the brides believe that the wedding gown is forever. This however is not so! In medieval times, royal marriages were of great political importance and were used to seal alliances between two countries. It was necessary for the preview to look magnificent in order to uphold the bride’s country as well as to impress the bridegroom’s country with their wealth and importance.

To do this, bridal gowns had as much material as they possibly could. Gowns were made of velvet, damask silk, satin, fur, and fabrics woven with threads of silver and gold. Colors would be rich-red, purple, and true black. Gowns might have had precious gems sewn in so the bride would glitter and flash in the sunlight.

During this time the poor bride’s gown would be linen or fine wool. Gowns with flowing sleeves or a train were big status symbols.

The traditional gown as we know it today appeared in the late 18th century. By 1900 the white dress with a veil was the gown to wear. In 1840, Queen Victoria chose a white dress with lace, making it a virtual rule. She was the first royal bride to have bridesmaids carry her train.
