Is the black wedding gown a trend or the wave of the future?

blackweddingdress1

Brides have enjoyed expressing themselves in shades other than white for years. At Occasions we sell more than 90% of our brides an Ivory gown opposed to white.  Shades of blush pink as well as champagne are also very popular choices. We have even sold soft shades of silver and blue

So we ponder are brides looking for a bolder statement? After all, the color black  is  a color of elegance and class in evening wear so why not in Bridal?

I wonder if black can overcome it’s negative connotation of being an eerie color, can we look past the thoughts of funerals and sadness?

Is black an unusual choice for a bride? Are Black dresses  here to stay?

What are your thought?

A perfect Harvest Wedding!

September and October have now become one of the most popular times to get married .  The weather is absolutely beautiful in  fall and here in New England the foliage can not be beat.

Here are some trends to look for this year

The Wedding setting continues to be a more rustic  BOHO vibe. Barn weddings are still trending, family style seating and natural decorations are popular  reception themes.

Fall bridal bouquets and centerpieces are often adorned with autumnal foliage and decorations such as branches, oak leaves, acorns and crab apples. It is often the colors, as much as the actual flowers that are important. Rich reds, fiery oranges and beautiful yellows mixed with brown, gold, green, amber and russet colors.

Who says pie can’t be as elegant as  cake. Smaller portions mean guests can try as many flavors as their hearts desire. We love the combination of the mismatched tiered dessert tray.

And one last trend I simply adore is the white pumpkin also called the Ghost pumpkin Snowballs, Luminas or Caspers .So beautiful as a decoration or carved with your names and wedding date

TOP 10 WEDDING COLORS FOR SPRING 2016 TRENDS FROM PANTONE

Pantone just released 10 colors for spring 2016 few days ago and those are just perfect for spring weddings as well. As one of the most important events in our lives, our weddings surely deserve second consideration on every part, especially the wedding color schemes. “Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves”, said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. This spring we’ll see some breathtaking wedding color ideas with these colors. Check out the following trending wedding color palettes in spring 2016.

DIY Romantic Wedding

How-To-Have-The-Most-Romantic-Wedding-Ever-Bridal-Musings-Wedding-Blog-3

Photo by OneLove Photography via Style Me Pretty

Of course your nuptials will be romantic for you and your partner no matter what, a stolen moment alone after dinner, your time with the photographer, and of course that whole ‘getting married’ part!

But how do you take your guests along for the ride, and let them feel as wrapped up in your wedding as you?

Check out our tips for upping the romance factor on your wedding day, and creating the kind of ambiance your guests will never forget…

1. All The Lights

Lighting is perhaps the one element that can transform the feel of your wedding instantly.

Whether you have a budget for lighting production, you speak to your venue about what they can offer or you simply reuse your fairy lights from Christmas, carefully considering how to best light your space, will work wonders on romancing your guests.

2. Valentine Vows

How To Have The Most Romantic Wedding Ever | Bridal Musings Wedding Blog 3

Photo by OneLove Photography via Style Me Pretty

Your wedding ceremony sets the tone for the rest of the day, and is one of the parts where you can really guide the atmosphere.

Opting for really romantic ceremony readings, personal vows, and unique ideas like a family blessing of the rings, a hand-tying ceremony, planting a tree or lighting a unity candle, all add to the loving vibes. And get your guests involved from the start.

3. Scentscape Your Day

Scentscaping (yes, it’s a thing!) is a huge buzzword in luxury weddings, but can also be adapted on a budget for any big day. Smell is perhaps the most powerful sense for evoking emotion, but it’s often overlooked for weddings (understandably) in favour of food, music, and the look of the day.

Companies like Gemma Hopkins’, Design In Scent can create a gorgeous bespoke scent that will become the fragrance backdrop to your day. For a DIY version, think verbena candles, lavender centrepieces or freesia bouquets. A wedding that smells as good as it looks is steeped in romance!

4. Ambient Music

How To Have The Most Romantic Wedding Ever | Bridal Musings Wedding Blog 6

Photo by Benj Haisch via Style Me Pretty

Of course at some point your guests are going to want to hit the dancefloor and Shake It Off to Taylor Swift. But before that, your wedding music can go a long way to setting the feel for your day.

Choose personal, un-cliched songs, with a dreamy feel for your ceremony, cocktail hour, over dinner, and for your first dance. You can even include some slow sets throughout the evening for the couples! (Check out our Valentine’s playlist for inspiration!)

5. A Romantic Feast

Your choice of food and how you serve it can be a big help in creating a romantic atmosphere at your wedding. We’re not saying you need to woo your guests with oysters and dark chocolate – though I’m sure they wouldn’t mind!

Avoid buffets, BBQs, sliders or street food, instead try elegant shared table dishes to get conversation flowing and guests dining in a more intimate fashion.

6. Love Seats

As with the catering, planning your tables to create an intimate, chatty atmosphere will absolutely amp up the romance at your wedding.

There’s something really special about long dining tables, that creates a closer, familiar feel over the more formal round variety or top table set-up. Choosing a sweetheart table will also give you and your other have a chance to have your own romantic dinner for two at your wedding.

7. A Wow Venue

Choose a romantic wedding venue, and all the hard work is done for you!

A medieval castle, a beautiful glasshouse, a pretty garden, or an atmospheric old church; take a stunning venue, add some candles (see below) and et voila, you’ve got yourself a seriously romantic setting.

8. A Touch of Whimsy

How To Make Your Wedding Super Romantic | Bridal Musings Wedding Blog

Sometimes your guests might feel more like they’re witnessing your romance than feeling it for themselves. But adding an element that’s fun and sweet, will soon get them involved in your day.

We love the idea of this balloon march from one venue to the next, (with a release at the end!), you could also have a waltz lesson, an open mic for toasts or some fun games to bring your guests together and feeling the love.

9. Copious Candles

Candles work magic in any room, even more so at a wedding. This is perhaps the most affordable way to add instant romance to your soiree.

Tealights can add the ambiance, and pillar candles in hurricanes or lanterns will look really stylish, but for full on romance, it has to be tall candelabras for a dramatic, gothic, feel.

Did you feel fireworks in your belly when you first met your other half? Why not share that feeling with your guests?

Launching sky lanterns, putting on a fireworks display, or having a sparkler sendoff adds serious sparkle to your wedding and ensures you finish your night on the most romantic note possible.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

1. Wake up refreshed.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

Get to bed at a decent hour the night before so you can be your best. For this reason it’s wise to plan bachelor and bachelorette parties at least a week ahead of time.

2. Eat a breakfast that is high in protein and complex carbs.

This food will take a while to break down in your body and keep you going, which is important since brides and grooms can go long periods without eating.

3. Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.

Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.

You want to be able to relax and have a good time with your bridesmaids, not stress over whether you’ll finish in time.

4. Wear a dress shirt when getting your hair styled.

Wear a dress shirt when getting your hair styled.

Brides often wear T-shirts that have to be pulled over their freshly coiffed hair at the end. Dress shirts, however, can be unbuttoned without doing any damage to your beautifully done hair.

5. Grooms should make a list of all the things they need to do on the morning of the wedding.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

Bridesmaids are great at helping a bride remember everything. Groomsmen are less helpful in this regard, though they are more likely to bring beer.

6. Speaking of groomsmen, it’s a good idea for the groom to discuss expectations for behavior.

Speaking of groomsmen, it's a good idea for the groom to discuss expectations for behavior.

Guys can get pretty crazy at a reception. If you want a level of decorum it’s best to spell that out before someone tries to do a body shot off your grandma.

7. If you bought new shoes for the big day, be sure to break them in ahead of time.

Otherwise you’re liable to feel awkward in them and have sore feet.

8. Don’t overdo the perfume.

Heavy perfume can make you feel nauseous and even attract bugs.

9. This goes for you too, grooms.

10. Hire a wedding coordinator if possible.

Couples often decide to cut this expense, but coordinators let you enjoy your day by keeping drama at bay.

A typical one includes a first aid kit, tampons, a Tide To Go stain remover pen, and anything else that might fix a minor emergency.

13. Take a few selfies.

14. But other than that, put your phone away.

15. Get loose before you walk down the aisle.

Do some light stretching to release tension and get your blood flowing so that you don’t — gasp — pass out. Hey, it happens. Check YouTube.

16. Stop to take it all in during the ceremony.

Ask your officiant to include a “deep breath” moment so you can look over the audience, gaze at your spouse, and burn the memory into your brain.

17. Make a five-minute dinner date.

Make a five-minute dinner date.

Taking the time to enjoy a full meal is almost impossible with so many guests clamoring for your attention, but a five-minute dinner date — where you grab a few bites and enjoy your new spouse’s company — is more manageable.

18. If five minutes is too much, get your food to go.

If five minutes is too much, get your food to go.

Arrange with the caterers to send a couple to-go boxes of food with you when you leave the venue. They’ll be glad to do it.

19. Be magnanimous.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

Greet everyone with a smile even if it’s your second cousin whom you haven’t spoken to in a couple years because she said that thing (you know what I’m talking about). No one likes an angry bride, and you won’t like being one either.

20. Similarly, stay poised during the best man and bridesmaid’s speeches.

If something inappropriate is said it’s best to let it pass without having a big reaction. Many people will have missed it, but they won’t miss you screaming at the best man.

21. Give a thank you speech with your spouse.

Give a thank you speech with your spouse.

It’ll feel good to thank your parents, grandparents, and guests (especially those who traveled great distances) for making such a momentous occasion in your life possible.

22. Arrange for group photos at the reception.

Arrange for group photos at the reception.

Have the DJ call over college friends, co-workers, and teammates for a few quick group photos. Your photographer may suggest doing these before the reception, but save the more formal, time-consuming shots for the wedding party and family only.

23. Be careful with alcohol.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

This is a day you’ll want to remember clearly for the rest of your life, so make sure you don’t drink too much (that’s for doing at your friends’ weddings). One tip is to drink a full glass of water between each alcoholic drink.

24. Pack flats for the reception.

Pack flats for the reception.

Sophisticated ballet-style slippers look great with a wedding dress, so bring a pair to put on when you want to cut loose.

25. Appoint someone to save you from chatty guests.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

Inevitably someone, whether it’s your great aunt from Poughkeepsie or the dad of your old college roommate, will talk your ear off seemingly unaware it’s your wedding day. That’s why having someone to politely pull you away is a must.

26. Have a moment with each of your parents.

Have a moment with each of your parents.

Brides dance with their fathers and grooms dance with their mothers, but there’s no moment on the schedule for your other parent. Make one.

27. Don’t do the cake smash.

31 Tips To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Wedding Day

Brides, you still have people to see and photos to take, so you don’t want to get cake in your hair and on your dress (nor do you want to reapply makeup). Grooms, this is not how you want to start married life. Trust me on this one.

28. Give the DJ a list of songs you want to hear.

This way you’re more likely to hear your jam than “Y.M.C.A.”

29. Make sure you dance.

Your favorite tunes are playing, the dance floor is packed with people you love, and you have reason to celebrate! With conditions like that even grooms who “don’t dance” will regret it if they don’t let their inner Bacon loose.

30. Have a relaxed attitude about the wedding night.

If fireworks explode, awesome. But after a long day many brides and grooms collapse in exhaustion. Don’t worry… there’ll be plenty of time for fireworks later.

Amid all of the fun and celebration be sure to take a moment to look over at the person you’re pledging your life to and reflect on the incredible journey that lies ahead of you both.
